During WWII Ben served in Palestine from 30 September 1940 to 17 March 1942. He was wounded in January 1941 in Egypt, receiving gun shot wounds to both legs, stomach and right forearm.

Ben received the following medals and decorations:

Defence Medal
War Medal
Australia Service Medal

On discharge from the Army in 1946, the number of dependants listed was 3 children under 16 and one over 16. This would be Thelma and Ben from his first marriage who would have been 16 and 12. Also Kenneth and Geoffery from his second marriage, who would have been 6 and 2 years.

While working as a bus driver, Charles accidently reversed over and killed his conductor, a good friend. Charles remained friends with the conductors brother untill his death.


6. Milton James WESTON

During the years of World War II Milton was called up for military service. When they realised his two brothers were serving in the Air Force, and he being a primary producer, was asked to supply fresh vegetables for the camps at Greta, mainly carrots and onions.
