BIOGRAPHY: Australia's first free white settlers arrived at Sydney Cove on the small transport ship "Bellona" on 16 January 1793. Frederick was granted 60 acres.
This was not Frederick's first time to Australia, he came free to Botany Bay as a sailor on the "Scarborogh". A month after his arrival he became the fourth person to appear before a magistrate. The charge was that he had exchanged a bottle of rum to a convict for a possom. He received 50 lashes. Frederick then transferred to the "Sirius" and sailed for Norfolk Island on 6 March 1790, was shipwrecked there. After returning to the mainland he sailed back to England on the Dutch ship "Waaksamheid" on 28 March 1791.
After a little over two months in England Frederick again sailed for Australia, this time on the "Bellona". Besides convicts the Bellona carried the first five free settlers to Australia.
